Friend, housemate, and artist-in-crime, Ken Klaus, and I filmed “Doin’ Time” in June. We nearly finished it, and then I got distracted by the arrival of a new song (“Go Deeper”) and a video concept that felt urgent. Indeed, our filming of that (and everything else in our lives) was interrupted by the Bobcat Fire nearby in the Angeles Forest. It took awhile to regain momentum.

I wrote Doin’ Time in late 2018 after Gráinne Hunt came to visit and left my guitar in open D tuning (thanks, Grá!), inspired by a particularly long stint without the sun - both literally and metaphorically. It seems to have taken on a new meaning during this drawn out period of lockdown life. We tried to capture the overlap of the two.
